It was noted in the chronicles
that thirty-metre-long barges, having the capacity of 100 tons, floated along
the Nysa river in 1778.
In 1854 the first steamship called "Mazovia", brought from the Vistula
river, appears on the Mazurian lakes. It was commanded by captain Jankowski.
Within the years 1914-1915, a part of the water route equipment was destroyed as
a result of the war operations.
The information on a huge turnover of goods on the Great Lakes water routes in
the inter-war period, within the years 1918-1939, turned to be a pure myth. In
that period of about 20 years, the maximal amounts to be transported occurred in
1934 and they approximated 34,000 tons. |
