Niegocin lake – area: 26.4 sq. km, length: 10.8 km, width: 4.8 km, depth: 39.7 m. In the eastern part of the lake there is an island Grajewska Kepa (Grajewska Clump), called the “Love Island.”

 

Boczne lake – area: 1.8 sq. km, length: 3 km, width: 0.8 km, depth: 17 m. The lake constitutes a south-western bay of Niegocin lake.

 

The Kula canal – length: 0.1 km, it connects Boczne lake and Jagodne lake.

 

Jagodne lake – area: 9.5 sq. km, length: 8.7 km, width:: 1.8 km, depth:: 37.4 m.

 

Szymoneckie lake – area: 4.8 sq. km, length: 3 km. The lake constitutes a south-western bay of Jagodne lake and it is connected with Szymon lake by the Szymonski canal, 2.3 km long.

 

Szymon lake – area: 1.5 sq. km, length: 1.9 km, width: 1.4 km, depth: 2.9 m.

 

The Miodunski canal – 1,9 km long, connects Szymon lake with Kotek Wielki lake.

 

The Lelecki canal – 0.5 km long, connects Kotek Wielki lake with Taltowisko lake.

 

Taltowisko lake – area: 3.3 sq. km, length: 4.4 km, width: 1.6 km, depth: 39.5 m.

 

The Talcki canal – length: 1.6 km, connects Taltowisko lake with Talty lake.

 

Talty lake and Rynskie lake – area: 18.4 sq. km, length: 20 km, width: 1.8 km, depth: 50.8 m.

The Luczanski canal – length: 2.1 km, connects Niegocin lake with Kisajno lake (Mamry). On the canal there is an open rotary bridge – the only one in Europe.

 

Kisajno lake – area: 20.2 sq. km, length: 8.5 km, width: 3 km, depth 25 m. It covers the southern part of the Mamry lakes complex, it is connected with Niegocin lake by the Luczanski and Niegocinski canals. In the southern part of the lake – numerous islands, mostly covered with forests: Duzy Ostrow, Sosnowy Ostrow, Gorny Ostrow, Wielka Kiermuza, Debowa Gorka, and others. Altogether, they cover 123 ha. Around the lake one can spot unique species of birds: grebes, coots, mud harriers or mute swans and black storks. Around the islands the “ZEGLUGA MAZURSKA” has its picturesque route, called the “Swan’s Route”.

 

Dargin lake – area: 30.3 sq. km, length: 10.1 km, width: 5.6 km, depth 37.6 m. The lake covers the central part of the Mamry lakes complex. The opposite peninsulas, Kirsajty peninsula (a former island) being one of them, separate it from Kirsajty lake, situated to the north. In the sourthern part of the lake – two islands called Poganckie Kepy (Poganckie Clumps).

 

Kirsajty lake – area: 2.1 sq. km, length: 1.9 km, depth 5.8 m. It covers the central narrowing of the Mamry lakes complex.

 

Mamry lake – area: 25.6 sq. km, length: 7.6 km, width: 5.2 km, depth 43.8 m. On the lake there is the biggest island in the Great Mazurian Lakes Land – Upalty. It has the area of 67 ha, covered with 200 year-old trees: oaks, beeches, maples, poplars and limes. In the north-eastern part of the lake, near the village of Przystan, one can find an outlet of the Mazurski Canal (no longer used).

 

The Wegorzewski canal – length: 0.9 km, connects sections of the Wegorapa river curves.

Labap lake – area: 3.7 sq. km, length: 2.9 km, width: 1.5 km.

 

Dobskie lake – area: 18 sq. km, length: 5.7 km, width: 4.8 km, depth: 22.5 m. Covers the south-western part of the Mamry lake complex. On the lake there are islands: Wysoki Ostrow (2.8 ha) called the “Cormorants’ Island”, Lipka, Gilma and Ilmy Wielkie. The island of Wysoki Ostrów is a reserve of cormorants. On the Gilma island one can find an old Prussian castle. In the northern part of the peninsula situated between Dobskie lake and Kisajno lake there’s a reserve “Fuledzki Rog Glazowisko” (Fuledzki Rubble Corner). The route of “ZEGLUGA MAZURSKA” goes round the “Cormorants Island.”

MikolajkiRuciane-Nida

 

Mikolajskie lake – area: 5 sq. km, length: 5.8 km, width: 1.6 km, depth: 25.9 m. This lake fills a part of the lake trough running from Ryn to Ruciane-Nida. Its coast is usually high, and its western part is covered with forest (the Piska Forest).

 

Sniardwy lake (together with neighbouring bays) – area: 113.8 sq. km, length: 22.1 km, width: 13.4 km, depth: 23.4 m. In the southern part of the lake there are islands: Pajecza, Czarci Ostrow (Devel’s Islet) and Szeroki Ostrow (Wide Islet), connected with the land by a dam. On the island of Czarci Ostrow one can spot remains of a stronghold erected in 1784-96.

 

Beldany lake – area: 9.4 sq. km, length: 12.4 km, width: 2.4 km, depth: 46 m. It is a trough lake filling the southern part of the trough (35 km) stretching from Ryn to Ruciane- Nida, and surrounded by a pine-spruce forest of the Piska Forest.

 

The Guzianka Sluice – a one-chamber sluice, length: 44 m, width: 7.5 m. The difference of levels between Nidzkie lake (117.9 m above sea level) and Beldany lake (115.7 m above sea level) reaches 2.2 m. The sluice gate was built in 19th century.

 

Small Guzianka Lake – area: 0.4 sq. km, length: 1.5 km.

 

Big Guzianka Lake – area: 0.6 sq. km, length: 2.6 km, depth: 25.9 m.

 

 

Ruciane-NidaNidzkie lake

 

Nidzkie lake – area: 18.3 sq. km, length: 23 km, width: 3.8 km, depth: 23.7 m. It is often called “The Pearl of the Mazurian Lakes.” It is completely surrounded by the Piska Forests. There are eleven islands on the lake. On its western coast – the forester’s house, called Pranie – at present it serves as a museum of K. I. Galczynski (an outstanding Polish poet).
